Overview:
The Domain Road “The Water Race” Dry Riesling 2021 reflects the unique terroir of Bannockburn, a historic gold mining area that imbues the wine with exceptional minerality and complexity. The Riesling vines thrive on remnants of an old lake bed, alongside mineral-rich ‘pipe clay’ soils exposed by 19th-century gold miners. Named after the water races that were once hand-dug to irrigate the area, this wine offers a balance of fresh acidity and residual sweetness, resulting in a beautifully structured dry Riesling with both fruit-forward and mineral qualities.
Tasting Notes:
The wine is pale lime in colour, with a vibrant and inviting appearance. The nose is fragrant, showcasing notes of lemon, lime, musk, orange zest, and apple blossom, which are both fresh and aromatic. On the palate, the wine is intense and juicy, with flavours of lime, tangelo zest, and apricot leading the charge. The excellent balance of acidity and minerality gives the wine texture, while its long, ripe citrus finish is both refreshing and satisfying. This dry Riesling pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including fish and seafood, roasted vegetable salads, and spicy lentil or black bean dahls, making it an excellent choice for flavorful cuisine.
