New Zealand Pinot Gris has becoming increasingly fashionable, with its mouth-filling, rich and refreshing earthly stone pear and apple flavours, it’s now recognised as the third most popular white wine variety among wine drinkers.

New Zealand Pinot Gris is grown throughout the country, mainly in Marlborough, Central Otago and Hawkes Bay wine regions and is number four on the most highly planted and picked variety. The warmer sub-tropical wine regions produce fat ripe oily styles whilst the cooler southerly wine regions produce tighter wines with great structure.

The winemaking process normally requires a small amount of barrel ageing with a focus on building texture and complexity.

A wonderful textural element on the palate that is reflective of an Alsatian style while retaining a clean acidity that is a hallmark of our windblown glacial soils on the Cairnmuir terraces in Bannockburn. Hawkshead Pinot Gris 2017

$30.00 $27.00

The 2017 Pinot Gris is pleasingly refreshing, full of tropical fruit notes. A truly classic Central Otago wine. The wine displays lifted notes of Kaffir lime, citrus peel and sweet spice aromatics with notable hints of passionfruit and honeydew. Surprising it finishes with a memory of ripe Doyenne du Comice Pear.

The dry style Pinot Gris still displays an impressive fruit sweetness; it will fool your palate. It has only 2 grams of residual sugar per litre. Fresh pineapple acidity and unctuous texture make it a balanced wine with a steely mineral backbone. The Pinot Gris shows drive and persistence; you’re ensured to enjoy the long lingering, refreshing finish.
