Gruner Veltliner grape growing is relatively new to New Zealand with the first vines planted in Gisborne early 2000 and spreading to the southerly wine regions of Marlborough, Nelson, Waipara, Canterbury and Central Otago.

The grape originated from Eastern Europe, primarily Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, it’s a cool climate food friendly wine, somewhere between a Gewurztraminer and a Chardonnay. It can be produced in a variety of styles, from a youthful less aromatic wine consumed soon after the vintage to an ageing wine with more tertiary aromas.
