Askerne Estate Merlot Cabernet Franc Malbec 2015

$23.00 $20.70

This complex blend showcases a great vintage on our Havelock North vineyard. Dark and brooding on the nose with black doris plum, aromatic jasmine and underlying mineral notes of graphite and tar. The palate is broad and soft with supple front palate tannins and soft vanilla oak enveloping the fruit. Drink now or cellar for 5-7 years.

Sweetly perfumed – clove and cinnamon backed up with dark plums, vanilla and a touch of cedar. Richly fruited. Plums and forest berries with savoury leather and cigar notes. Seamless and dense tannins add to the sense of warmth. Opulence nicely balanced with a red vibrancy and spice on the finish. This wine is a brilliant match for red meats, game and pasta dishes. A perfect partner for casseroled lamb shanks or with scotch fillet, roasted rare. Recommended cellaring 3-15 years.

Cottier Estate Cabernet Merlot 2014

$22.00 $20.90

This vintage is quite bright in colour and retains the traditional flavours of red and black fruits, chocolate, overlaid with a faint hint of spice. Lingering dry finish.

Man O’ War Ironclad Merlot Cabernet 2014

$49.00 $44.10

Predominantly Cabernet franc and Merlot, the nose has aromas of sweet ripe fruit with lifted aromas of crushed red berries and darker cassis with hints of floral perfume from the Malbec and Petit Verdot with a flourish of tobacco and cedar from the Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is vibrant, exuding ripe fruit and a rich texture finishing with supple fine grained tannins. The 2012 Ironclad is a fine example of what Waiheke can achieve in a cooler vintage. It has great fruit accessibility with a powerful structure coated in luxuriant fruit, supple yet powerful. It is an engaging wine in its youth that will reward patient cellaring revealing a refined structure and greater complexity with age. This is our greatest Ironclad yet.

Pegasus Bay Merlot Cabernet 2016

$31.00 $29.45

The wine is deep ruby in colour. Its abundant aromas suggest blackberries, dark plums, cassis and mocha, with underlying hints of vanilla, spice, cigar box and game. The palate is rich but muscular, with a backbone of ripe tannins that provide a savoury aftertaste of black olive tapenade. While the wine is full bodied, the Merlot component ensures it remains smooth and succulent, with generous fruit weight. Aging potential 10 years.

Te Mata Awatea Merlot Cabernet 2016

$36.00 $34.20

Deep magenta with a crimson edge, this is signature Awatea – a modern Hawke’s Bay cabernet with deep, pure fruit and bright, floral aromatics. Roses, violets, wild blackberry and dark plum, intertwined with notes of aniseed and thyme. Then, on the palate, immediate bright red and black fruits, blackcurrants, spice, raspberry syrup and a layered, almost saline, tannin structure with a refreshingly, fine, dry finish. Awatea ’16, as ever, is stylish Te Mata cabernet that totally over-delivers. Closed with a natural cork that will allow Awatea to continue to evolve in bottle and provide great enjoyment up to 10 years from harvest.
