Overview
Askerne Res Chardonnay 2022 is a refined and expressive wine made from a blend of Clone 548 (39%), Mendoza (33%), and Clone 15 (29%), grown on the sandy silt soils of the lower terrace of Askerne Vineyard. Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, the grapes were fermented in a combination of wild and inoculated barrels, completing 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for 10 months with lees stirring, which added depth and complexity. The final blend incorporates 32% new French oak and 25% second-fill oak, ensuring a harmonious balance of fruit and oak influence.

This Chardonnay boasts intense aromas of ripe stone fruit and citrus, intertwined with floral spice, vanilla sweetness, and subtle limey mineral notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and textural, yet tight and structured. Rich oak spice complements the bright, concentrated citrus flavours, while a juicy acidity provides a refreshing finish and impressive length.
