Overview:
The Seifried 2023 Nelson Merlot is crafted from the exceptional Edens Road vineyard, located near the Wairoa River. The vineyard’s stony, free-draining soils play a key role in producing ripe, concentrated grapes, as they hold the warmth of the Nelson sun and help the vines thrive despite the harsh conditions. Harvested in early April 2023, the grapes underwent a meticulous fermentation process in stainless steel open-top fermenters, followed by aging in French oak barrels, which adds complexity and structure.
Tasting Notes:
This Merlot opens with inviting aromas of summer berries and a hint of spicy cinnamon. On the palate, it is ripe and approachable, with soft oak tannins enveloping flavours of plum and clove. The wine’s elegant balance makes it an easy-drinking yet complex choice, perfect for enjoying on its own or paired with a variety of dishes.
