Overview
Askerne Semillon 2017 is a sophisticated wine made from Clone 14 Semillon, grown on the upper terrace of Askerne Vineyard. After handpicking, the grapes were whole bunch pressed, with 55% of the wine fermented in tank to preserve freshness, while the remaining portion underwent wild fermentation in older oak barrels, adding complexity. The wine was then aged on its lees for 10 months, further enhancing its depth before blending and bottling.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with a captivating bouquet of honeysuckle, white blossom, apple, and delicate herbal notes, complemented by hints of nutty complexity and a touch of fine-grained oak. On the palate, Askerne Semillon 2017 retains the vibrant acidity characteristic of the varietal, beautifully balanced by the nutty depth hinted at on the nose. While it is at its best in youthful vibrancy, this Semillon has the potential for careful cellaring, revealing further surprises with age.
