Neudorf Vineyards, situated in the Upper Moutere Valley of Nelson, was established by Tim and Judy Finn in 1978. Neudorf Vineyards is credited with producing one of New Zealand's best Chardonnay's. It also has an international reputation for the quality of its other Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris wines. UK wine writer for the Independent, Anthony Rose, described Tim Finn's Chardonnay as 'New Zealand's convincing answer to premier cru Puligny Montrachet'. It is a powerful Chardonnay made from ripe fruit and exposed to the softening effects of melolactic fermentation. The Chardonnay is competitively priced, cellars well and is exported to the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Australia, Singapore and the United States of America. Wines can also be purchased direct from the winery. Neudorf is an interesting winery to visit, with its welcoming cellar door, secluded location, outdoor sculpture and proximity to other rural attractions. Neudorf Vineyards is open for tastings from 10.30am until 5pm over summer and from 11am to 4pm over winter. If making the visit, take our advice and pack a picnic lunch for the day.
