Matakana Estate is located near Warkworth on the Matakana Coast, just sixty minutes north of Auckland. Matakana Estate crushed its first grapes in 1988 and is now the biggest producer in the Warkworth / Matakana area. Early success in wine competitions brought the winery to our attention. Matakana Estate's most successful wines so far have been Pinot Gris and Chardonnay, although its owners (Paul, Peter and Jean Vegar) hope to prove the area has what it takes to make premium quality wines from the regions that best produce them.
