Brick Bay Vineyard is located in the Matakana wine-growing district, an hour’s drive north of Auckland. Brick Bay takes it name for the bay on which it is located - an attractive small bay overlooking Kawau Island. Brick Bay is a Pinot Gris specialist. Wine writer Michael Cooper desribed it , in his Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2002, as having 'Alsace like power and softness'. In 2005 Brad Farmerie of New York’s Public Restaurant chose a Brick Bay Pinot Gris to serve at the New Zealand Wine Lovers Dinner where it matched the First Course of smoked sea trout, fennel, and pistachio summer roll with preserved lemon yoghurt and fennel pollen. Brad commented that the Brick Bay Pinot Gris was a ‘wonderful addition to the night and a huge hit with the guests'.
